India posted a competitive total of 252 against Sri Lanka in their first innings on a spin-friendly pitch thanks to Shreyas Iyer 92 runs from 98 balls during the dinner break on Day 1 of the current Day-Night Test at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Earlier, Iyer had been India’s top run-scorer when he was bowled eight runs shy of his century for the innings’ final wicket. Virender Sehwag, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Sachin Tendulkar were the other Indian batsmen stumped in the 90s, along with Iyer.
India was 126 for five at one point, but Rishabh Pant scored 39 off 26 balls turned things around with his aggressive yet successful hitting. He made Sri Lanka pay a heavy price for their mistake when he was dropped with four runs on the board.
The game was then switched by Iyer’s measured aggression, which resulted in a gritty knock under duress, giving India the advantage in the day/night game.
His exciting 98-ball performance, which included 10 fours and four sixes, overshadowed the visitors’ strong work in the first session, when they took four wickets, including skipper Rohit Sharma (15) and Virat Kohli (23).
Embuldeniya (3/94), and Jayawickrama (3/81) are both left-arm spinners who each took three wickets for Sri Lanka.
