Ajit Agarkar, a former India bowler, will join the Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022.
Agarkar will join the franchise after finishing his responsibilities as a commentator for the home series against Sri Lanka, which begins on February 24. The IPL is set to begin in the final week of March.
Agarkar said on the news: “I am delighted to be a part of the Delhi Capitals squad this season.”
As a former player, I’m happy to be back in a different role. It’s an honor. It’s undeniably thrilling. We have a youthful and strong roster led by one of the world’s most brilliant players, Rishabh Pant. And the coach, Ricky Ponting, is a gaming legend. I’m excited to work with them and can’t wait to get started and make some memorable memories. “
The 44-year-old has 288 ODI and 58 Test wickets to his record and has played in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils. He joins the coaching team of the Delhi Capitals, which includes Ricky Ponting (Head Coach), Pravin Amre (Assistant Coach), and James Hopes.
Ajit Agarkar has played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is for India, capturing 349 wickets in all. After making the playoffs in the previous three seasons, the Delhi Capitals will be looking for their first title this season.
