Australia Dominate England

Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, and Jhye Richardson were the standout performers as Australia gained full control of Day 4 of the ongoing second Test here at the Adelaide Oval.

At stumps of the day and night contest England 82/4 still 386 runs away from the target. Ben Stokes (3*) is still at the crease after the end of the last session.

Resuming the final session at 20/1 Rory Burns and David Malan (20) added 28 more runs to the total before Malan was sent back to the pavilion by Micheal Neser. Skipper Joe Root followed as he added 23 more runs to the total along with Burns.

As soon as England were gaining momentum Root (24) was sent back by in-form Bowler Mitchell Starc. The hosts are now just 6 wickets away from going 2-0 up in the series.

Earlier Australia declared their second innings at 230/9 setting a target for 468. Labuschagne and Head both scored half-centuries for the host.

Joe Root became the third batter after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to slam 850 runs in the second innings of Tests in a calendar year.

James Anderson became the fourth bowler and first pacer to bowl 6000 overs in Test cricket. Muttiah Muralitharan, Anil Kumble, and Shane Warner are the others with the feat.

Anderson’s tally of 63 Test wickets is the joint-third most by an England bowler on Australian soil. He shares the feat with Bobby Peel.
