Avinash Sable set a new world record on Wednesday, when he clocked 8:16:21 in the 3000m steeplechase run at Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian Grand Prix.
The silver medalist at the grand prix on Wednesday was Haryana’s Shankar Lal Swami who finished with the time of 8:36:37.
According to the Athletics Federation of India, Avinash Sable’s national record time was better than the one he managed at the Tokyo Olympics, 2020.
He could not go past the preliminary round of the Tokyo Olympics, despite giving his best of 8:18:12.
Avinash Sable is an Asian Championship Silver Medalist. He now adds the Indian Grand Prix gold to his tally. He was very disappointed when he finished one place below the qualification for Olympics finals.
Though, his time yesterday would’ve been enough to see him through to the finals.
This just shows that Avinash Sable still has it in him to go on and represent India at the Olympic
