BCCI Clears India’s Tour To South Africa

After two days of dilemma, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has resolved to let the Indian cricket team travel to South Africa ending of this month regardless of the warning of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

India cricketers will go to South Africa later this month notwithstanding the menace of the new COVID-19 mutant Omicron as per reports, the BCCI is assured that the bio-bubble is being built by the CSA will be secure and safe for the players.

The approximately week-long tour covers three Tests matches, three one-day internationals, and four Twenty20 Internationals, and is listed to begin on December 17 in Johannesburg. The players will live in water-tight conditions throughout the coming seven-week tour.

The tournament is expected to be held behind shut doors but for Cricket South Africa, their economic well-being depends on the India team’s call as multi-million TV claims are at the post. India A team is on a tour of South Africa, where they are involved in three-match Test series.

Ajinkya Rahane was in a bad score of form which marked him getting released from the Test XI against New Zealand in Mumbai also sets his vice-captain title in uncertainty.

Once Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul come back into the field and Virat Kohli is already back and handling the captaincy against New Zealand, and young guns like Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal has scored the most runs against New Zealand and snatched their post in the Indian team. With this having Rahane in the team has left no running remains an intuitive decision.

There is every possibility that he sways not getting a start in South Africa also if he performs the cut. In this situation, the vice-captaincy nominees are T20 captain Rohit Sharma and his vice captain KL Rahul, who are now voluntarily options.
