BCCI plans to release Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma : Both experienced India bowler Ishant Sharma and former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane are expected to be dismissed from their Board of Control for Cricket in India, central contracts for the current season. Suryakumar Yadav, Shubhman Gill, and Hardik Pandya, three in-form Indian batsmen, are set to advance in the central contract.
According to rumours, Hardik could be promoted from group C to group B if he is chosen as the next T20 World Cup captain. Wriddhiman Saha, a wicket-keeper batsman, is another prominent name who is probably going away. Saha, a red-ball specialist and wicket-keeper batter, was advised by India head coach Rahul Dravid to retire.
A senior official, who is privy to the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity,
“Surya was in Group C but his performance in the last one year warrants a promotion to Group B at least, if not A. He is currently world No. 1 in T20I ICC rankings and is a serious contender in ODI team also”
Gill, who now frequently participates in both Tests and ODIs, can expect moving up from Group C to B. Ishan Kishan, who reached 210 on Saturday, will undoubtedly be on the list. After a string of solid performances, Pandya might be in group B. He was demoted to Group C the previous year after suffering a back injury and missing a substantial chunk of the previous season.
