The Bengal Warriors commenced their title defence with a gritty 38-33 win over U.P. Yoddha. All-rounder Mohammad Nabibakhsh was in an inspired form, scoring eight raid points and three tackle points, helping his side get off to the perfect start in vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 8.
The superstars on hand took turns to showcase their class in the opening half. Maninder’s stellar raids and some tough tackles from the Warriors’ defence saw them pin U.P. in a six-point hole midway through the first half.
Pardeep Narwal, who had a rough start on his debut for the U.P. Yoddha, found his footing and notched up five successful raids in six attempts to help his side claw their way to parity on the scoreboard.
With Maninder and Pardeep having laid down the marker, it was Nabibakhsh’s turn to showcase his class, making an on offence and defence to help the Warriors pull away on the scoreboard. His incredible Super Raid helped Bengal put daylight between themselves and U.P. on the scoreboard.
U.P. weren’t about to just down their tools, and they brought the score back to within three, but Sukesh Hegde’s Super Raid followed by some stellar work from the Warriors’ defence helped them inflict an All Out and build an eight-point just past the midway point of the second half.
Raiders Rohit Tomar and Surender Gill tried their best to bring their team back into the contest, but Hegde and Nabibakhsh continued to make an impact on offence and defence, respectively, to maintain the Warriors’ advantage.
Despite U.P.’s best efforts late in the game, the Warriors continued to do just enough to stay ahead and eventually won their season opener by five points.
