Cameron Green is scheduled for a surgery

Cameron Green is scheduled for a surgery : Young Australian all-rounder Cameron Green will undergo surgery to treat a broken right index finger, but doctors believe the 23-year-old will be able to recuperate in time to be selected for the Border-Gavaskar series, which starts on February 9 in India.

Although he also sustained a finger injury while fielding during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, pace spearhead Mitchell Starc faces a possibly lengthier absence and will be up against the clock to demonstrate his readiness for the four-Test series in India.

The two have already been eliminated from the third and final Test in Sydney against South Africa.

After Australia’s innings and 182-run victory against the Proteas in the second Test, according to a story on cricket.com.au, Green reportedly saw a physician who advised surgery.

An Anrich Nortje bouncer struck Green’s finger, forcing him to quit on day two. However, on day three, he battled through discomfort to produce an undefeated half-century.

Although Starc’s left middle finger tendon injury does not require surgery, the 32-year-old fast could not be ready for the series opener against India on February 9 in Nagpur.

Despite not needing surgery for the torn tendon on his middle finger, the speedster stated:

“India is the next big tour and we will see where the timeframe is with that. It is my bowling hand so I have got to be pretty careful and make sure it heals properly. The irony is (Green) will be back before I am. Bones are a bit quicker in the healing process, the tendon is a little bit different. I think we will both be seeing the same specialist. I still think everyone is confident it will be more front-end (than back-end of the India tour that Starc will be right for). It will obviously depend on how it heals and how quickly it can do what it needs to do.”
