David Warner to snub BBL to play in the UAE League

Big Bash League: David Warner might choose not to play in the BBL this season and represent some other team in some other league.

Australian Star cricketer David Warner is considering skipping out on the Big Bash League to feature at the newly formed UAE League.

The reason for this snub is “captaincy ban”. David Warner, who was involved in the sandpapergate in 2018, was banned from playing cricket for an year as well as issued a life time career leadership ban.

Same verdict had been given to fellow Australian and the then skipper, Steve Smith but, Smith has since been appointed vice-captain of the Australian team. Pat Cummins is the current captain of the team.

David Warner’s spouse, Candace Warner is not best pleased that David has still not been offered a formal leadership role, despite his excellent cricketing brain. Warner now, has the chance of leading a team in the UAE League and if Cricket Australia does not uplift his ban, he might choose to feature somewhere else than his own nation’s cricket league.

Candice recently spoke on the matter at the Triple M’s Deadset Legends with Dan, Richard and Candice.

She said, ““Yeah it (the ban) bothers me, I don’t like injustice so it does bother me.”

“But it doesn’t really bother him because he can go and captain in the UAE, he can go and captain in India where people appreciate his cricketing brain and what he can bring to a team.”

Further, Candice also said that the final decision to play in the Australian T20 league summer is something the family will take in the coming.

“Regardless of whether the ban is lifted or not, if he plays Big Bash, it’s a decision we talk about what’s best for the family in this period. Also, there’s another league going on in the UAE, which financially (has) much bigger money. It’s not just a matter of lifting Dave’s ban, it’s a matter of what’s best for our family. And Dave’s just accepted he has this ban now.”

We will have to wait and see what the Warner family decides to do and for which team, Warner will feature in.

Currently, Warner and Co are preparing for the second and the final test against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. The test commences on 8th of July. Australia lead 1-0, after their dominant win last week.
