FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022

France defeated England and advanced to the semifinals- FIFA Word cup

France defeated England and advanced to the semifinals and continues to enjoy their back to back victories : In the quarterfinal encounter of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Bayt Stadium, France defeated England 2-1 thanks to goals from Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud.

After England’s John Stones suffered an injury while attempting to steal the ball from an opponent, medical personnel rushed onto the field. Later, Jack Grealish took his position.

It was the first time the two teams have met in a major tournament elimination game.

In the 17th minute of the first half of the quarterfinal game between France and England, Aurelien Tchouameni scored to give France a 1-0 lead. In order to win the game, England had to perform better in the second half.

Harry Kane scored England’s equalizer from the penalty spot in the 54th minute, and then Oliver Giroud gave France the lead again in the 78th minute.

By the end of the first half, France appeared to be the better team and had more opportunities. But Tchouameni’s long shot was what gave them the advantage. As Saka was fouled in the process of setting up that goal, England would have felt badly done by. England had 45 minutes to save their campaign, and France had the same amount of time to secure a position in the final four.

The Climax:

After the full-time whistle was blown by the referee, Kane knelt down and glared. England was distraught. The nation of France started to celebrate. The semifinal round is now open to them. The Three Lions were just inches away. Kane had the opportunity to bring them even, but he failed to do so. The French continue to pursue their goal of winning consecutively for the first time in 60 years.

Who knows how things might have turned out if Kane had converted his second penalty to send the game into overtime? With a victory, England might have advanced to the semifinals, where they would have faced Morocco as heavy favorites.
