After Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai vanished after making an allegation of sexual assault against a senior political figure star tennis player Serena Williams shows concern for her
On Thursday Serena Williams joined the voices of concern for Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai, whose whereabouts have been covered in secret since she claimed a powerful Chinese politician sexually assaulted her. Former world number one American player Serena Williams says the event of Chinese player Peng Shuai “must be investigated” and asked people “not to stay silent” about her well-being.
“I am devastated and shocked to hear about the news of my peer, Peng Shuai,” former world number one Serena Williams wrote on Twitter. “I hope she is safe and found as soon as possible. This must be investigated and we must not stay silent.” Williams’ tweet was followed by a photo of a smiling Peng captioned with #WhereIsPengShuai. “Sending love to her and her family during this incredibly difficult time,” Williams added in her tweet.
On Wednesday Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka said that she was in “shock” about the case, with Novak Djokovic and many other players in recent days stating they were deeply concerned about her.
Former world number one doubles player Peng Shuai has triumphed two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon in 2013 and the 2014 French Open, both alongside Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-Wei.
