Delhi’s promising fast bowler, Harshit Rana, has been called up to join the India squad for the third Test against New Zealand, scheduled at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Set to make his debut this Friday, the 22-year-old seamer could potentially add depth to India’s bowling attack. Originally, Rana was named as a travelling reserve at the start of the Test series in Bengaluru. However, he was released to participate in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy third-round game against Assam, where he showcased his all-round talent, helping Delhi secure a 10-wicket win and a bonus point at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
“He’s ready for Test cricket. Playing in Mumbai will be valuable before he heads to Australia,” stated Sarandeep Singh, former national selector and Delhi’s current coach.
Rana’s performance in the domestic circuit has caught attention. Following a successful comeback in red-ball cricket during the Duleep Trophy, where he took eight wickets across two matches, Rana was also named in India’s T20I squad for the Bangladesh series, though he did not play. Now selected as part of India’s 18-member squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, he joins a formidable seam lineup led by Jasprit Bumrah.
Harshit expressed his eagerness after his latest match, stating, “The team wanted me to gain domestic experience before Australia, and I’m glad to have performed well with both bat and ball.”
