HS Prannoy beats compatriot Lakshya Sen with 21-17, 16-21, 17-21 to enter quarter-final of Badminton World Championships.
India’s HS Prannoy made a big upset in the World Badminton Championships on Thursday. He defeated compatriot Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals. Prannoy, who became popularly known as the Giant Killer for defeating giants, defeated the Commonwealth Games gold-medallist target to seal his place in the quarterfinals. At the same time, veteran Saina Nehwal got defeated in women’s singles.
Lakshya and Prannoy saw a fierce fight for one hour and 15 minutes. Lakshya started the match in a brilliant manner. He won the first game 21-17. It looked like Lakshya would win this match easily, but Prannoy did a great job. He won the second game 21-16 and the third game 21-17. This was the fourth match between the two this year. Both have won two matches each. Prannoy will face Zhao Jun Peng of China in the quarterfinals.
