Ian Bishop thinks it’s great to see Rohit Sharma keep attacking fields.

In his first full-time job as India’s ODI captain, Rohit Sharma seemed to have checked all the boxes. In a three-match series in Ahmedabad, the Asian giants secured an invincible 2-0 lead over a visiting West Indies team, captained by their new limited-overs skipper.

India successfully defended a below-par total of 237 against the West Indies in the second ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, after chasing down 177 in the first ODI with relative ease. Suryakumar Yadav was the sole bright spot in the batting order, but Rohit managed to skittle out a potent West Indies batting team for just 193 in 46 overs in the second ODI.

Ian Bishop, a former West Indies fast bowler, praised Rohit’s captaincy, saying that the skipper’s tenacity in setting aggressive fields till the final delivery of the match was impressive.

While India only had 237 runs in the bank, Rohit never let his foot off the gas as he rotated his bowlers and took his time to get the field placements right. His decision to keep a slip fielder for new hitters, including stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies, paid off big time on Wednesday, as he forced mistakes from the West Indies batters.

Prasidh Krishna, 25, answered admirably to his captain’s appeal, taking four wickets, and conceding only 12 runs in nine overs. Shardul Thakur took two wickets, while the other four Indian bowlers each took one wicket. In the second ODI, Rohit utilized his sixth bowler, Deepak Hooda, to great effect.

“As a captain, there are a few crucial things to remember: when you make a bowling change, your bowlers must adjust and make you seem good. You can make these changes as well as bowl garbage “When asked how he rated Rohit’s captaincy in the series so far, Bishop told Star Sports.

“The attacking fielders that Rohit Sharma maintained in position from the start of the innings till the finish of the innings was extremely fantastic to observe,” he continued.
