“If They Don’t Win In Adelaide Then There Could Be ’06-’07 Again”- Ricky Ponting

Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting has warned England they are in danger of 5-0 whitewash in Ashes 2021.

Ponting thinks the visitors had a realistic possibility of reaching on top in the series-opening match in Brisbane, with a total nine-wicket beating juggled bad news for their chances over the following four games.

The Australian team has a 1-0 up lead in the series after a solid nine-wicket success at the Gabba in Brisbane, where England lost eight wickets in a shocking batting failure on day four.

Australia gave a nine-wicket defeat to their arch-rivals in Brisbane, winning the first test in under four days. The Gabba wicket had the normal pace and bounce but unusual favoured some swing as well. Nevertheless, England skipper Joe Root choose to bat first, letting Australia’s bowlers overpower and take a powerful benefit early.

“The conditions are only going to get better for Australia. Those conditions (in Brisbane) were very English-like. There was more pace and bounce but as far as their bowling is concerned, they’re probably not going to get that much movement anywhere else for the entire series. We saw them bowl really well on the last tour in Adelaide under lights where everything just fell perfectly into place,” Ricky Ponting stated.

The former Australia captain stated if the pink ball doesn’t prefer England as greatly as it did in 2017, the guests could stumble to scrape out a win. It would then separate ‘shades of ’06-07’, in reference to Australia’s renowned 5-0 Ashes victory at home under Ponting.

“We saw them bowl really well on the last tour in Adelaide under lights where everything just fell perfectly into place – Australia had to bat for a session; the lights were on, brand new ball, clear night.”

“We’ve also been to Adelaide at other times when the pink ball has done nothing, whether it’s a new ball or not. If they don’t win in Adelaide then there could be shades of ’06-07” He said.

England has not succeeded in a Test in Australia since the 2010-11 series when they prevailed 3-1.
