I’m the freshest I’ve ever felt ahead of new F1 season: Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton will be looking to get back on winning ways as the new season of the Formula One championship begins this month at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Hamilton had taken a break from all the media appearances after his last season ended in his opponent Max Verstappen’s favour in a dramatic fashion. The British racer lost to the Red Bull driver in the very last lap as the then race director Michael Masi forgot to implement 2 sporting regulations because of which Verstappen was able to overtake Hamilton to win the 2021 F1 title.

37-year-old Hamilton is nearing the end of his career but is feeling fresher and more energetic than ever before the start of the new season.

“Naturally I think at the end of any season, probably for those that are around my age, of course, you’re thinking about the future. You’re thinking about what are the next steps, what are the right steps for you to take, what’s right for you in terms of overall happiness? So, I always evaluate all my options. But I did make a commitment to the team early on in the season, and ultimately I love what I do. I love being a part of the team. I love working with, and I’ve said it so many times, working with everyone towards a common goal.

I feel I’m at my best. So why do I need to leave? There are so many different ways you can refocus and be recentered, and I would say this [winter] is one of the best that I’ve experienced. So, I feel the freshest today that I feel I ever have.”

Hamilton is back with his Mercedes team and started covering some initial laps in his new Mercedes W13 in the pre-season testing as well. He will be looking to go for that record-breaking eighth F1 title and etch his name on the top of the Formula One history charts when he finally does decide to hang his boots after his illustrious career over the years.
