IND vs AUS Women 5th T20 : Australia claims the series by 54 runs

IND vs AUS Women 5th T20 : India gave Australia the opportunity to bat first, but they were dealt a blow right away when a slower ball from Anjali Sarvani caused wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney to lose her stumps after only two balls. Australia was at 8/1.At the final ball of the innings, Deepti was bowled for 53 by Graham, bringing India’s total to 142 all out. India fell short by a score of 54 runs. Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris both scored half-centuries, and Heather Graham bowled a scorching session to help Australia defeat India by 54 runs in the fifth and final T20I of the series on Tuesday in Mumbai.

The series has been won 4-1 by Australia. Smriti Mandhana (4) and Shafali Verma (13) were lost in the powerplay itself as India was attempting to chase down 197. The wickets were taken by Darcie Brown and Ashleigh Gardner, respectively. In 4.2 overs, India was reduced to 24/2.

The remainder of India’s powerplay was successfully completed by Harleen Deol and captain Harmanpreet Kaur after that without incident. With Deol (24) and Kaur (2) on the crease, India had six overs remaining and was 46/2. Deol was run out for 24 from 16 balls after the pair made a major mix-up. India had a 47/3.

Harmanpreet (12) and powerful wicketkeeper-bat Richa Ghosh (10) were then lost by India to Annabel Sutherland and Gardner. With her second wicket after a fifty, Gardner extended her impressive run in the game. For a total of 70 runs, half of the Indian team was out.

At the end of 10 overs : India was at 71/5, with Devika Vaidya (1*) and Deepti Sharma (2*) being the fresh pair. Women in Blue looked lost in this big run chase and needed to replicate what Gardner and Grace Harris did in the second half of Australian batting. But India’s miseries just would not stop. Heather Graham dismissed both Devika (11) and Radha Yadav (0) in the 13th over and the hosts sunk to 88/7. At the end of 15 overs, India was at 100/7, with Deepti (18*) and Anjali (2*).

Anjali was defeated for four points by Tahlia, who took her first wicket of the game. In 18.2 overs, India had 130/8. Renuka Singh was out of the game when Graham took her third wicket. At the penultimate ball of the innings, Deepti was bowled for 53 by Graham, bringing India’s total to 142 all out. India fell short by a score of 54 runs. Graham (4/8) was Australia’s preferred bowler. McGrath, Sutherland, and Brown each got one wicket, while Gardner took two.

Richa Ghosh’s stumping of Phoebe Litchfield allowed all-rounder Deepti Sharma to dismiss her for just 11 runs off of nine balls, making quick work of her own. India had the Australians at 17/2 after 3.3 overs. Following this, captain Tahlia McGrath and Ellyse Perry took control and guided their team through the rest of the powerplay without suffering any additional losses.

With McGrath (19) and Perry (6), Australia was 42/2 at the end of the powerplay in six overs. A strong partnership between the two was broken by Shafali Verma, who reduced it to to 38 runs. Australia scored a 55/3.

With help from Harleen Deol’s safe hands at long-on, Vaidya dismissed Perry for just 18 off 14 balls as India continued to control the game. Australia’s current score was 4/67. Australia had scored 72/4 after 10 overs, with Grace Harris and Ashleigh Gardner both still alive.

When Gardner hit Anjali for four boundaries in the 13th over, which saw a total of 19 runs scored, Australia gained some momentum. Australia scored its 100 runs in 12.5 overs. 12 runs were also lost in Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s subsequent over.

Australia had Grace (37) and Gardner (30) at 129/4 after 15 overs. After scoring 60 runs in four overs at the conclusion of the 16th over, which conceded 15 runs, both hitters increased their run rate by hitting several fours and sixes in each over. In 16.5 overs, Australia reached 150 runs. In just 28 balls, Harris reached her first fifty, while Gardner blasted to her sixth T20I fifty in just 25. The pair also mentioned their century stand in just 49 balls.

With Ashleigh Gardner undefeated at 66 off just 32 balls, with 11 fours and one six, and Harris at 64 off 35 with six fours and four sixes, Australia finished their innings at 196/4 in 20 overs. In just 62 balls, they stitched a 129-run stand. Each of Anjali, Deepti, Shafali, and Devika Vaidya secured a wicket.
