IND vs BAN 2nd Test match to happen without Rohit Sharma : Earlier this month, Rohit suffered a left thumb injury while fielding in the slip cordon in the second ODI. He immediately returned home (to Mumbai) in order to heal in time for at least the second Test. After that, scans had shown that the thumb needed a few stitches due to a dislocation. Now, even the second and final Test between India and Bangladesh, which starts on Thursday at Mirpur, is expected to be without Rohit Sharma.
As far as the availability of the regular captain is concerned, the message is therefore fairly obvious. From January 2023, India will play a lot of home games, therefore it could be best to avoid putting Rohit at danger and instead allow him enough time to relax so that he can be completely prepared.
India will host Sri Lanka and New Zealand for six ODIs and the same number of T20Is next month; the team will be revealed soon. Following the white-ball leg, a four-match Test series against Australia will start on February 9 at home.
Rohit would undoubtedly be needed in India’s top order, especially while facing the tough Pat Cummins – led Australian attack. The WorldTest Championship (WTC)final berth is also on the line, therefore Rohit’s health would undoubtedly improve India’s batting and their chances.
India has risen to No. 2 in the WTC standings after defeating Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test and South Africa losing to Australia in Brisbane inside two days. It seems sense that India would want to win again in order to maintain their lead in the standings.
KL Rahul will continue to lead India in Rohit’s absence, while youthful ShubmanGill, who scored his first Test century in Chittagong, is ready for another opportunity.
After winning the IND vs BAN first Test in just the first session of the final day, the Indian team travelled to Dhaka on Monday. The team is expected to exercise at the Sher-eBangla National Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday.
