India win a thriller against Argentina in FIH Pro League

India avenge for their penalty shootout loss against Argentina as Mandeep Singh’s late goal helps India win a thrilling contest 4-3 in the FIH Pro League.

This is the lineup that started against Argentina today,

Quarter 1

Both teams looked to start off on the front foot, but neither team was able to carve out any chances as the quarter finished 0-0.

Quarter 2

The second quarter proved fruitful for India. They took the lead early through Hardik Singh. He scored on the rebound after Varun’s drag flick was saved well in the Argentina goal

Soon, Jugraj Singh doubled India’s lead as his ferocious strike found the back of the net.

India led at half time, 2 goals to 0.

Quarter 3

Argentina came out attacking and finally succeeded to beat the Indian defence.

They earned a penalty corner and scored from it subsequently.

Della Torre’s drag flick was well placed to beat Sreejesh in the Indian goal.

The third quarter ended 2-1 in the favour of the Men in Blue.

Quarter 4

Arguably the most exciting quarter of the match. 4 goals were scored in this quarter by both teams. 2 apiece.

Argentina scored first when Toscani won a penalty stroke after India were down to 10 men.

Dilpreet Singh was shown a green card and as a result had to sit out for 2 minutes.

Tomas Demene scored from the spot to make it 2 goals each.

Soon, Jugraj Singh scored his second goal as he put India 3-2 up. A brilliant flick that flew into the roof of the net.

Jugraj Singh thought he had scored again but the review showed that the ball did not cross the circle completely from injection.

With just 5 mins to go, onus was in Argentina to draw level. Martin Ferreiro’s superb strike got them level on terms.

But there was to be another twist as India scored with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

Mandeep Singh again scored in the dying stages but this time, to help India win the match.

He found himself on the end of a brilliant pass from guess who? Jugraj Singh. His shot was deflected and found the back of the net to hand India a win in the dying stages of the match.

2 action packed ties between the 2 teams in 2 consecutive days.

A splendid performance by Varun Kumar as he is adjudged Man of the Match.

India now take on England in 2 weeks time, whereas Argentina meet France on 16th and 17th April before taking on South Africa the following weekend.
