Indian badminton player B Sai Praneeth crashed out in the second round of qualifiers of the BWF Super 500 tournament.

On what was otherwise a disappointing day for Indian badminton players at the Indonesia Masters 2023, Priyanshu Rajawat was the only men’s singles player to make the main draw in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala crashed out of the doubles main draw in the first round.

Priyanshu Rajawat beat France’s Christo Popov 21-17, 21-19 in the first round of the qualifiers before downing Denmark’s Victor Svendsen 21-10, 13-21, 21-13 in the second round to seal his berth in the main draw, where he will face Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

None of the other men’s singles players managed to progress.

Olympian B Sai Praneeth managed to beat Indonesia’s Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay 21-18, 9-21, 21-15 in the first round of qualifiers but lost to Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei 21-18, 21-19 in the second to bow out.

Kartikey Gulshan Kumar won his first qualifier 21-8, 21-14 against Malaysia’s Yeoh Seng Zoe but fell to Chinese Taipei shuttler Lin Chun-Yi 16-21, 17-21.

Kiran George lost 21-18, 21-12 in the opening round against Indonesia’s Christian Adinata while Mithun Manjunath also failed to get past the first qualifier after losing to Dutch shuttler Mark Caljouw 21-11, 21-5.

In the men’s doubles round of 32, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala lost 21-17, 21-9 to Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Tan Wee Kiong to crash out. Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto outplayed compatriots Ashna Roy and Haritha Manazhiyil 21-10, 21-7 in the round of 32 of women’s doubles.

In the other qualifiers, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy beat Chinese Taipei’s Po Li-Wei and Chang Ching Hui 21-15, 21-18 to seal a main draw berth in mixed doubles.

The Indian pair will next face Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah and Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata, who knocked out B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa in their qualifying match.
