The Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to begin on March 27, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is confident of hosting the tournament across four venues in Maharashtra – the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and the MCA Stadium in Gahunje.
India is currently experiencing the third wave of the pandemic, with the Omicron variant dominant across the country. And in case the Covid-19 numbers in India are low at the time, Ahmedabad could be considered as a second venue to host the playoff. In case the pandemic situation in India is not feasible to host the tournament, then South Africa and the UAE will be the back-up options in no order.
I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement released on Saturday evening. Over 1,214 players 896 Indian and 318 overseas players have been registered for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
