India’s full-time Test captain is Rohit Sharma
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday that Rohit Sharma is taking over as India’s Test captain from Virat Kohli as well. He has been named full-time T20I and ODI captain. India’s team for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka was also declared by the BCCI.
The two-match home Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins on March 1, is Rohit’s first assignment as full-time Test captain. In the last couple of years, he has become a key member of the Test side as well as a mainstay at the top of the order.
In white-ball cricket, Rohit’s credentials as a captain are unmatched. After Ajnkya Rahane was removed as vice-captain due to poor play last year, Rohit was selected as the Test team’s vice-captain in December 2021. However, because of a hamstring injury, Rohit was unable to fly to South Africa.
Before deciding its judgement, the selection committee held extensive discussions. We had a conversation with them previously. We informed them that they would not be considered for two Test matches for Sri Lanka. We informed them that the doors are always open for them. Selectors chose to give other players chances in just two Test matches. They are competing in the Ranji Trophy “According to Chetan Sharma,
Rohit’s health is being questioned since the great opener has missed multiple high-profile matches in the recent past because of injury worries. With a T20 World Cup and a 50-over World Cup on the horizon in 2022 and 2023, respectively, Rohit must be at his peak to lead the squad in white-ball forms.
India’s Test team for the SL series is as follows: Rohit Sharma (C), Mayank Agarwal, Priyank Panchal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KS Bharat, Ashwin (fitness), Ravi Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Kuldeep, Bumrah (VC), Shami, Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Sourabh Kumar.
