IPL 2022: Battle of the old metropolitan rivalry

In the 56th match of the IPL 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians face off against each other for the second time this season on Tuesday.

Mumbai Indians are languishing in the last spot in the IPL table after some dismal performances throughout this campaign. Mumbai has won two matches and lost the remaining 8. On a positive note, they have won the last two matches, which will be great to build their confidence up and end the season on a high. Rohit Sharma has a few positive signs like the middle order duo of Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav and a few brilliant spells of Murugan Ashwin.

Kolkata Knight Riders had performed in pieces this season. Their openers haven’t performed well. But the middle order of Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana has been good. Fast bowlers like Tim Southee and Umesh Yadav have performed above expectations. But inconsistency has played its part and KKR is with 4 wins and 7 losses and sitting at 9th in the table.

Match Details:

Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Venue: D Y Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai

Date & Time: Tuesday, 9th May 2022 at 7:30 PM IST and Local Time

Pitch Report:

The pitch has help for the pacers as well as the spinners. The dew factor is also a point, the captain needs to keep in mind. With a fast outfield, it’s more likely the team that will win the toss chase.

IPL Head-to-head:

Total matches played: 30

Mumbai Indians won: 22

Kolkata Knight Riders: 8

Probable Line-ups:

Kolkata Knight Riders: Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Sam Billings (wk), Shreyas Iyer (c), Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee, Shivam Mavi/Umesh Yadav.

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, Kumar Kartikeya, Jasprit Bumrah, Riley Meredith.

IPL Match Prediction:

Both Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians have a season to forget as both the teams performed badly. There are few more positives on the KKR side than MI. But given Mumbai’s record against KKR, it’s going to be a very close encounter. KKR would be the favorite to win today’s match.
