Last time around KKR succumbed to a defeat to Delhi Capitals, who completed a double over them. KKR put up 146 on the board, thanks to a wonderful 50 by Nitish Rana. But, Warner and Powell helped DC chase down the target with 4 wickets in hand and 6 balls to spare. Another heartbreaking loss for KKR, who are on the verge off being knocked out of the playoffs race.
As for Rajasthan Royals, Buttler’s big hitting was not enough as Mumbai Indians chased down 157 in the final over to get their first win of the season. Buttler had struggled to get going, till he faced Hrithik Shokeen. He smashed the offie for 4 consecutive sixes, before falling prey to the bowler in the same over.
The last time KKR met RR was on 18th April, 2022. It was an intense match where both, the purple cap holder and the orange cap holder led RR to a crucial win.
Buttler, Orange Cap holder, smashed 103 runs off 61 balls as RR posted the then highest score of the season in 217/5.
Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch had KKR right on track for chasing down this total but, Yuzvendra Chahal had different plans.
The leggie turned the game on it’s head in his final over. He picked up 4 wickets in an over, including a hattrick. Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins were dismissed in consecutive balls to help RR defend 217 by just 7 runs. Chahal picked up a 5 fer that game.
KKR edge over RR by a solitary win, as KKR have 13 wins in 25, compared to RR’s 12.
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium is a good one to bat on. The bounce can be trusted when combine this condition with shorter boundaries, the deck turns into a batting paradise. Last time these two teams met, they scored 427 runs! A similar score can be expected this time around as well.
