Yuzvendra Chahal won the purple cap for the Tata IPL 2022 but, who else finished in the top 5 in the wicket takers list? Let’s find out.
First up we know who it is,
Since joining the Rajastha Royals franchise, the spin wizard has been on the top of his game. Bowling in tandem with Ravi Ashwin has helped Chahal as well.
The leggie has bamboozled batsmen through out the tournament, as he picked up 27 Wickets in his 17 games.
This includes a match winning 5-fer and a hat-trick against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
After being hit for a 6, Chahal enticed Nitish Rana to go again but, this time the spinner had the last laugh. Rana holed out to Buttler in the deep as KKR stumbled in the chase of 217.
Chahal picked up 4 wickets in his final over of the match.
First up, he picked up the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer came down the tracked but missed the ball completely and was out stumped by Sanju Samson.
A ball later, he got rid of the dangerous and well set batsman Shreyas Iyer. Iyer danced down the track, connected with thin air, before the ball hit the pad. He reviewed the decision but to no avail as he was out.
In came Shivam Mavi, who looked for a long shot but, holed out in the deep. 2 in 2 for Chahal.
This time, Chahal got his hat-trick, with Pat Cummins edging the ball to Sanju Samson, who took a sharp catch behind the wickets.
A memorable day for Chahal as he helped RR beat KKR by 7 runs.
The Sri Lankan spinner had an outstanding IPL season, this time around. After being bought in for INR 10.75 crore, many people questioned this decision. But boy did Hasaranga prove them wrong.
In a campaign where the big stars struggled to go big, Hasaranga performed with frightening consistency, to end up a single wicket short of the purple cap!
He picked up 26 wickets in Tata IPL 2022, which includes a memorable double wicket maiden and a 5-fer against SunRisers Hyderabad.
First up, Hasaranga got rid of Aiden Markram, whose slog sweep was comfortable gobbled up by Virat Kohli.
Next, Hasaranga picked up the wicket of Nicholas Pooran. Credit to Shahbaz Ahmed, who dove forward to complete a good catch at short third.
Jagadeesha Suchith tried to charge down the wicket but missed the shot and Dinesh Karthik completed an easy stumping. 3rd wicket for Hasaranga.
The next over by Hasaranga just piled on the misery for SRH. He bowled a double wicket maiden to hand RCB a 67 run win.
Shashank Singh tried to go big against the spin of Hasaranga but, his shot went straight down the throat of Glenn Maxwell.
To complete a 5 wicket haul, Hasaranga trapped Umran Malik in front of the stumps. Umpire’s call was the decision by the third umpire and Hasaranga completed a 5-fer.
Even though the Punjab Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs, they had a decent campaign and one of their star performers was Kagiso Rabada.
Due to National team matches, Kagiso Rabada joined the PBKS camp after their first match. Despite playing just 13 matches, Rabada picked up 23 wickets!
A great campaign from the South African pacer.
This includes a 4-fer against Lucknow Super Giants, where he helped PBKS restrict LSG to 153.
Unfortunately, it was not enough as PBKS lost that match.
But, take nothing away from Rabada’s bowling effort. He bowling a good line and length to get rid of KL Rahul first.
Later, he dismissed Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni cheaply, before picking up his 4th wicket in the form of Dushmantha Chameera.
He picked up 4/38 in that match in his 4 overs. Rabada formed a great partnership with Arshdeep Singh and next year, these two can help PBKS go long in the tournament.
The young Indian fast bowling sensation, Umran Malik, had a wonderful IPL. As a result, he received a deserved call up for the Indian team, that will face South Africa at home.
Malik picked up 22 wickets in 14 matches, which includes a 5 wicket haul against eventual Champions Gujarat Titans.

While other bowlers went for runs aplenty, Umran Malik picked up a 5-fer. 5 wickets fell for GT that night, all of them were picked up by Umran Malik.
(Fun fact: 4 off the 5 wickets that Umran Malik picked up that match were bowled)
Malik got rid of Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya in back to back overs, to help SRH back in the game after a strong opening partnership for GT.
He then came back to bowl his third over and picked up the well set Wriddhiman Saha, who scored a match winning 68.
In his last over, Malik picked up David Miller and Abhinav Manohar off consecutive balls, to pick up a 5-fer.
Unfortunately, it was not enough as former teammate and star, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia scored 71 off just 32 balls to guide GT to a last ball win.
This includes a 22 run final over, with Rashid hitting a last ball 6 to win the match!
After having a couple of disappointing seasons, where Kuldeep was dropped, from the squad, the left arm leggie had a memorable IPL season.
Kuldeep Yadav ended up picking 21 wickets in the 14 matches, including a brilliant spell of 4/14 runs!
To his delight or despair, Kuldeep Yadav picked up a 4-fer in the match against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders.
A magnificent spell, where he picked up Baba Indrajith, Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.
Kuldeep bowled just 3 overs that match. Had he bowled a 4th over, who knows, he might have picked up a 5-fer that night.
Many bowlers have impressed this season but, these are the top 5 wicket takers in the Tata IPL 2022.
