IPL 2023 Auction : Gujarat Titans acquire Kane Williamson

IPL 2023 Auction : The title holder Gujarat Titans purchased New Zealand star Kane Williamson for his base price of Rs 2 crore, becoming him the first player to be sold at the 2023 Indian Premier League mini-auction.

When Hugh Edmeades, the auctioneer, called for bids, Williamson was the first player to be pulled out of the bag. Gujarat Titans raised their paddle after several failed efforts to elicit an offer, but no other team did the same.

At the 2022 T20 World Cup, Williamson finished as New Zealand’s second-highest run scorer, however his 178 runs came at a strike rate of 116.33. Williamson has been having trouble in T20s even at the international level.

Midway through the IPL 2021, Australian David Warner was replaced as captain by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Williamson. The fact that SRH finished last in the league in 2021 indicated that the change of captaincy had little effect on their performance. The very next year, in 2022, SRH finished eighth out of 10 teams and failed to qualify for the playoffs with only 12 points.

Williamson had had trouble hitting earlier this year while playing for SRH, collecting just 216 runs from 13 games with a strike rate of just 93.51 and an average under 20.

About the Player :

The gifted kid made his first-class debut at the age of 16, having started playing senior representative cricket at the age of 14. Kane attended Tauranga Boys College, and by the time he graduated, his account had 40 centuries. So it’s clear that he was famous from a very young age.
The New Zealand cricketer Trent Boult and Doug Bracewell reside nearby. Bracewell, though, is a buddy from his youth.
Williamson plays a variety of sports. He played rugby as a kid and has succeeded in basketball in school.

The IPL giant Sunrisers Hyderabad signed Kane Williamson in 2015. He became a part of the winning team in 2016 and captained the side in 2018 and finished the season as runners. The Kiwi batsman won the Orange Cap, amassing 735 runs in 17 matches.

In 2015, the IPL’s premier Sunrisers Hyderabad team acquired Kane Williamson. He joined the victorious squad in 2016 and led the team as they ended the season as runners-up in 2018. After scoring 735 runs in 17 games, the Kiwi batsman was awarded the Orange Cap.
