On December 23, that is, today, the Indian Premier League (IPL) holds its yearly auction to allow clubs to assemble their squads. The Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kochi, Kerala, is where the auction will take place this year.

The Franchises are all set for the Auction :

Sunrisers Hyderabad have joined the bidding war with Rajasthan Royals for England’s Harry Brook

Current bid at a whopping INR 8 Crore

Harry Brook is next under the hammer with a base price of INR 1.5 Crore

Rajasthan Royals & Royal Challengers Bangalore in a fierce bidding war at the moment

Gautam Gambhir’s Insights :

The IPL auction is a thrilling occasion that has the potential to change a player’s life, while viewers are treated to an emotional roller coaster as clubs decide on their starting lineups. 991 players registered for the auction this year, and 405 made the final list, comprising 132 foreign players and 273 Indian players. The teams only have 87 seats open to them, and they have a total budget of 183.15 crores at their disposal.

PURSE REMAINING:

As 10 teams compete to outbid one another for some of the hottest properties in T20 cricket, the 16th season of the IPL sees 991 players sign up for the auction. Some of the greatest names in cricket, including all-rounders Ben Stokes and Sam Curran from England, Adil Rashid from Pakistan, Kane Williamson and James Neesham from New Zealand, Mayank Agarwal from India, and many others, will be up for auction.

Prior to the 2023 auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad will have a salary budget of 42.25 crores to spend on a maximum of 13 slots. The Punjab Kings had INR 53.2 crore for nine open slots in 2021 and INR 42.7 crore for a maximum of nine players in 2020, making them the only team since 2014 with a larger budget going into a mini auction.

In the 2021 season’s auction, the Rajasthan Royals made the winning offer for Chris Morris at 16.25 (in INR crore). The bid placed at the IPL mini auction is the biggest ever for any player. In 2015, when Delhi Daredevils bought Yuvraj Singh for INR 16 crore, he was the most expensive Indian player ever to be purchased at a mini-auction.

No Indian cricketer is listed at the basic price of 2 Crore?

Here, take a look at the list of players with 2 Crore base price :

Take a glance at the venue for the thrilling IPL 2023 Auction:

IPL Mini Auction Live in 2023: Auction Regulations

  • No franchise will be permitted to invest in a player more than they have available in their budget.
  • Each team’s whole money must be spent, at least 75% of it.
  • Right to Match (RTM) card access will not be available to franchisees.
  • There should be a minimum of 18 players on each roster, and no side should have more than 25.
  • Each franchise may include a minimum of 17 and a maximum of 25 Indian athletes.
  • Each team may have a maximum of 8 players, with no upper restriction on the number of foreign players they may have.

About the Auctioneer :

Hugh Edmeades, a seasoned auctioneer, is back this year after abruptly collapsing last year during the sale owing to “postural hypotension.” Edmeades has been an integral element of the IPL’s auction ever since he succeeded Richard Madley in 2018 as the head of the auction. Even though Charu Sharma performed a fantastic job on short notice, his distinctive flair and abilities to generate excitement as the bidding progressed were greatly missed in the previous auction.
