IPL Media Rights: Know- How much was the media rights sold for?

IPL Media Rights: In the e-auction for the year 2023 to 2027, the media (TV and digital) rights of IPL have been sold for a price of more than 44 thousand crores.

IPL Media Rights: The TV and digital media rights for the next 5 years of the prestigious Indian Premier League have been acquired after a long bid by two different broadcasters. These 2 giant media companies now have the rights to broadcast a total of 410 matches for a 5-year cycle from 2023 to 2027. This also means that BCCI will be paid 107.5 crores for every match, which is unprecedented for Indian sports.

According to sources, the auction for 2 packages in the e-auction regarding the media rights of IPL has been completed. A total of Rs 44075 crore will be paid for Package A (TV Rights) and Package B (Digital Rights). While TV rights were sold for Rs 23575 crore, there was a huge bidding of Rs 20500 crore for digital rights. This means that the valuation of a match of IPL has become more than Rs 100 crore.

The rights of both TV and digital have been acquired by different companies. This means the TV and digital broadcasters of IPL will be different from 2023 to 2027. BCCI will get Rs 107.5 crore for showing a match of IPL on TV and digital platform. This is more than the earnings of a match in the English Premier League. One match of EPL earns Rs 81 crore. However, the names of the companies have not been revealed yet. It is being said that the auction process will continue on Tuesday as there are still 2 packages left.

Earlier on Sunday, Viacom18, Disney-Star, Sony and Zee participated in the bidding which lasted for 7 hours. Global retail company Amazon had earlier pulled out of e-auction. If sources are to be believed, Sony company was pushing hard to buy TV rights, while Star bid for digital rights. There was a lot of web-traffic during the IPL matches on Disney-Hotstar.

Rights being sold in four different packages This year media rights are being sold in 4 different packages. Package-A includes TV rights for India and Package-B includes digital rights for India. Package-C includes select 18 matches (base price Rs 11 crore) and package-D includes TV and digital rights abroad (base price Rs 3 crore).
