A two match T20 series is to be played between India and Ireland in Malahide.BCCI wants T20 experts to be given a brief break.
A BCCI source said, “All the players selected for the T20 series against Ireland will return home after a three-day break. No biologically safe environment (bio-secure bubble) will be created for the series but the players will not be accompanied by their families. Some players have been playing cricket continuously since IPL and it is appropriate that they spend some time at home.
All the members of the team going to Ireland will gather in Mumbai on June 23 along with the head of the National Cricket Academy VVS Laxman and the support staff. “Laxman and the players will gather in Mumbai on June 23 and they will leave for Dublin the next day,” the source said. They are already coming after playing the series so there is no need of time to get into the rhythm. Also, it is a two-match series so you don’t need much time to adjust.
After playing two T20 matches in Malahide on 26 and 28 June, the team will travel to the UK for a T20 warm-up match while the Test team will play the remainder of last year’s series in the ‘Fifth Test’ from July 1 at Edgbaston. However, it is believed that not all players of the current T20 International team will be retained for the tour of England as many regular players will return to the team.
