Jamshedpur FC’s Boris Singh: Honour to play under Owen Coyle

Jamshedpur FC is enjoying an incredible season in the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) and have managed to put up a total of more points after 15 games than they did in the entirety of last season. A brilliant contributor to this stat is Boris Singh who has been a highly influential player for the Men of Steel this season. The winger has been in scintillating form for his side. Earlier in the week, the 22-year-old sat down with InsideSport for an interview and spoke about head coach Owen Coyle, adapting to his new role, expectations of making the semi-finals, and a lot more.

Positioned third in the league table, Jamshedpur FC have been labeled as fan favorites for making it to the semi-finals following their competent display of performances throughout the season, and Boris Singh has backed his side on meeting the expectations.

“We were almost on the cusp of reaching the semi-finals, but we missed it by a whisker last season. So, coach Coyle has made a lot of changes this season, he has brought in new players, and we feel that we have got the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle this time. We have performed really well this season and we are hopeful that we will reach the semi-finals.”, said Singh.

He further added that the pre-season was beneficial to them, “I think a lot of credit goes to our pre-season. There we got a full six weeks to work on ourselves. Coming to the season, we have worked as per the plan of our coach and till now it has gone really well. I think our hard work is also paying off and hence we are doing well till now.”

The youngster, having been backed by head coach Owen Coyle, has featured in all 15 games for Jamshedpur FC. Singh has high praise for him and attributes his general progress and development in the last year to the Scottish gaffer.

“I am getting to learn new things every day and it is helping me to develop as a player. I want to see myself as a better player, so it has been an honour to play under him.”

The former Indian Arrows player has primarily played as a winger this season. Having started his career as a fullback, Singh revealed that he has not been forced to make major changes to his game, he said, “I have featured as a winger as well during my time with the Indian Arrows so I have that idea of how things will be”. He further added that he was really happy in his new role and looks forward to many more good years with Jamshedpur FC.

Boris Singh has assured the fans that the squad will give it their best to meet their expectations, “I have seen how Jamshedpur FC fans are crazy for football. I have not yet witnessed that unfortunately because of COVID-19 but we are always looking to make you guys proud. We will try our best to win the trophy for you guys.”

With crucial games against the likes of Hyderabad FC and ATK Mohun Bagan in the final laps of the league stage, the Men of Steel would hope that their team continues its good form and delivers their first Hero ISL trophy.
