KL Rahul will be doing the vice-captaincy for the forthcoming three-match Test series against protea. Rohit Sharma would have been the vice-captain, but his hamstring injury ruled him out of the series and therefore it gave Rahul a great opportunity to act as deputy to Virat Kohli.
The Right-handed batsman has played 40 Tests so far and has knocked 2321 runs with an average of 35.16 including six centuries under his belt. Importantly, he looks promising as a long-term potential leader in the coming days.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had stated that Rohit Sharma was injured and ruled out of the South Africa series and Priyank Panchal be replacing him in the team. However, no vice-captain was anointed during the announcement made by the BCCI.
“Team India Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday, He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the Test squad,” BCCI stated in an official release.
