Kohli ends his worst ODI series in nine years after going for a duck in two balls.

Virat Kohli’s poor run-in international cricket continues, as the former skipper was out for a second-ball duck in the third ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli appeared dejected after he failed to bother the scorers on Friday, continuing his bad scoring streak.

On Friday, Virat Kohli was removed in the fourth over of India’s innings after edging a ball from Alzarri Joseph that was traveling down the leg side. Kohli received a tiny edge while attempting to flick the freebie to the square leg boundary.

Notably, Kohli was bowled twice after skipper Rohit Sharma pulled one off his stumps after scoring 13 runs. After winning the toss and opting to bat in the last ODI after taking an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the series, India’s top-order was shaken by West Indies pacers. Within the first ten overs of the game, India lost Rohit, Kohli, and comeback man Shikhar Dhawan.

Kohli’s no-show on Friday further raises concerns about his form in international cricket. While Kohli’s quest for his 71st century has lasted more than two years, he only achieved 26 runs in three innings in the ODI series against the West Indies.

This is also his lowest ODI tally since 2015 when he achieved 49 against Bangladesh in Bangladesh. In the first ODI, Kohli was out for a 4-ball 8 after an uncharacteristically irresponsible knock. He looked good in the second ODI before being run out for 18.

Meanwhile, Kohli has tied an unfavorable record for the most ducks for India in ODIs at home. The 2-ball 0 on Friday was his eighth dismissal without a score in the 50-over format at home. Kohli has more ducks than Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Yuvraj Singh combined. Kohli also equaled Harbhajan’s (8) total for most ducks by an Indian at home with Raina.

Kohli has scored 142 runs in six One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in 2022, averaging 23.66. He appeared to be regaining his flow in South Africa, where he struck two fifties, but Kohli’s inconsistency has harmed India in all forms.
