English club Manchester United have decided to end their 9-year partnership with Russia’s flagship airline company ‘Aeroflot’ after Russia decided to invade Ukraine with their troops. Aeroflot had been the official airline carrier for Man Utd since 2013 and will no longer be the sponsor for it. The British government on Thursday imposed a biting package of sanctions on Moscow, which included banning Russian carriers from UK airspace.
The current deal which was signed by United with the airline company was supposed to run out in 2023. However, due to the current invasion ordered by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, the deal with the Russian company has been called off. United issued a statement as well which stated “In light of events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn Aeroflot’s sponsorship rights. We share the concerns of our fans around the world and extend our sympathies to those affected.”
In response to the negative reaction from the UK government, Moscow has also banned any airline activity linked to the UK. Vladimir Putin’s troops have already entered Kyiv and are not looking to stop at the moment.
