Manoj Prabhakar resigns as Nepal’s Team Head Coach

Manoj Prabhakar resigns as Nepal’s Team Head Coach : Manoj Prabhakar, a former all-rounder for India, announced his resignation as Nepal’s team coach on Thursday after serving in that position for four months. In 39 Test matches between 1984 and 1995, 59-year-old Prabhakar got 96 wickets and scored 1600 runs. He was appointed to the position in August. Additionally, he had participated in 130 ODIs and taken 157 wickets.

Nepal had a good tour to Kenya under Manoj Prabhakar, taking the five-match T20I series 3-2 and then dominating the ODIs 3-0. Only five T20Is and seven ODIs, including four games in the World Cup Super League 2, were managed by Prabhakar for the men’s side from Nepal.

In the most recent tri-series, Nepal lost three of four games, with the fourth game being rained out. This led to a difficult qualifying campaign for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Though they have games in hand on every team in the table above them, Nepal is still in the running to qualify for the World Cup despite currently holding the sixth slot in League 2.

Cricket Association of Nepal announced,

“Mr. Manoj Prabhakar has stepped down from his position of Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team’s Head Coach with immediate effect on 15th December 2022,”

With 30 players appearing in the season, by far the most in the league, Nepal have found little consistency in their line-up on the field in addition to several coaching appointments in the League 2 cycle. Rohit Paudel, a 20-year-old captain who took over in September, is another new addition to the team.

Nepal has 12 more games left in League 2, eight of which are at home. They must place in the top three to qualify for the Cricket World Cup, but if they place in the bottom four in the seven-team competition, they can still qualify through a play-off.
