MMA fighter died after fight in Mysuru Karnataka

A kickboxer from Mysuru in Karnataka had gone into a coma on July 10 after being seriously injured in a kickboxing programme and died at a private hospital. Police said a case has been registered at the Gyanbharati police station in this regard. According to police, the ‘K-1 Kickboxing Championship’ was organised by the Kengeri-based K-1 Kick Boxing Organisation, Karnataka, on July 10 at a gym in Gyan Jyoti Nagar in the city.

During the event, Nikhil S (23) got a loud punch from his opponent and fell in the ring. He was rushed to a private hospital where he remained in a coma for two days and succumbed to his injuries on July 12. An FIR has been lodged against the K-1 Kickboxing Association and its head coach Navin Ravi Shankar on the complaint of Nikhil’s father Suresh P. Suresh, in his complaint, alleged that there were several lapses on the part of the organisers which led to the death of his son.

He alleged that the thickness of the kushan was also inadequate due to which his son suffered a serious head injury and died when he fell to the ground. There was no paramedical team, oxygen cylinders and stretchers, nor was there any vehicle to take the injured to the hospital.
