Mumbai City FC will take on Bengaluru FC

Mumbai City FC will take on Bengaluru FC on matchday 56 of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 season at the PJN Stadium in Margao, Goa.

The Islanders approach this game after a goalless draw against SC East Bengal in their last match.

The Blues, surprisingly, also played out a draw against SC East Bengal in their last match too.

While Mumbai City FC outplayed Bengaluru in a 3-1 in their last outing this season, things will be different this time around as the former is contending to cement their place at the top while Bengaluru FC is desperately in need of the three points to revive the season.

Form Guide

Mumbai City FC

Buckingham’s men haven’t registered a single win in their last four games. But with 17 points in their kitty, they very much remain in contention for the top spot. However, the Islanders need to secure the necessary three points to remain in touch with the summit.

Bengaluru FC

The Blues sit eighth in the league table with 10 points, winning two games, drawing, and losing four each. Pezzaiuoli’s men ended their 7-game winless run with a 4-2 win against Chennaiyin FC in their second to last game.

Head-To-Head

The two teams have faced each other nine times, with Mumbai City FC enjoying the advantage with five wins while Bengaluru FC winning the encounter just thrice. The Islanders have won four of the last five matches between the two sides in the Hero ISL.

Team News

In the Mumbai City FC camp, Ahmed Jahouh will be missing in action as he picked up his fourth yellow card and stands suspended for this match while Vikram Singh is still in recovery and is still some way away from getting minutes on the pitch.

In the Bengaluru FC camp, Leon Augustine has not returned to training. Sarthak Golui is also ruled out. Jayesh Rane picked up an ankle injury in the last match, so he is also unavailable. Ajay Chhetri was sick for a week so he will also not feature.

Key Players

Mumbai City FC

Igor Angulo: The forward has been in outrageous form, netting eight times besides providing two assists in ten games for his side. Angulo has contributed to 45.45% of Mumbai City FC’s goals and only sits behind Bartholomew Ogbeche (9 goals) in the race for the Golden Boot.

Amey Ranawade: Ranawade has been a powerhouse in the defense section for his side, making 29 tackles, 15 clearances, 15 blocks, and 14 interceptions alongside a passing accuracy of 81%.

Bengaluru FC

Cleiton Silva: The 34-year-old Brazilian has five goals and three assists in 10 games and has been the major contributor of goals for his side. He has had a hand in 50% of Bengaluru FC’s goals. Only Greg Stewart, who has contributed to around 58% of Jamshedpur FC’s goals, has a higher contribution in a team’s goals than Silva.

Roshan Naorem: The defender has been assisting the Bengaluru FC attack with his runs down the flank, providing three assists in eight games. Defensively, the 22-year-old has made 38 tackles, 22 clearances, 13 interceptions, and nine blocks.

Key Stats

Set-Piece Kings

Mumbai City FC and Bengaluru FC have scored the joint-most goals from set pieces this season (10 goals). The Blues have scored 6 of their 10 set piece goals from corners. No team has scored more goals from corners in this season than Bengaluru FC.

The Islanders missing the clinical touch

Mumbai City are currently on a 4-match winless run. Their last win came in Match 30 against Chennaiyin (1-0). One of the reasons for their lack of a win in the last 4 matches has been a drop in their goals scored. In the first 6 matches, they scored 17 goals (2.83 goals/match) and in their last 4 matches, they have only managed 5 goals (1.25 goals/match). They scored a goal at least in each of their first 6 matches. In the following 4, they failed to put the ball in the back of the net twice.
