PAK vs AUS: Check out which new record has Steve Smith broken while playing against the Pakistan team

PAK vs AUS: Despite not being able to score a ton in the ongoing 3rd Test against Pakistan, Steve Smith managed to break a huge record with his knock of 59 runs in the first innings.

Australia batter Steve Smith has been in a rich vein of form for the team in the ongoing tour of Pakistan. The Aussie batter managed to post yet another 50+ score against Pakistan after scoring 78 and 72 runs in the first two tests in Rawalpindi and Karachi respectively. The only sad part about Smith’s innings was his inability to convert these fine knocks into a century.

However, he still managed to break a huge record while batting this time round. Smith who managed to conjure up a total of 7,993 runs till now, has finally surpassed former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored 7,913 runs after 150 Test innings. The Australian batter is now ahead of all the cricketing maestros like the Indian trio of Sachin Tendulkar (7,869), Virender Sehwag (7,694) and Rahul Dravid (7,680)  who are also on the list.

Australia was reduced to 17 for two in the ongoing third Test after electing to bat first. Smith and Pakistan-born batter Usman Khawaja led Australia’s comeback, adding 138 runs for the third wicket. Smith and Khawaja were both dismissed with scores of 59 and 91, respectively, missing out on centuries.

Pakistan appeared to have taken control of the proceedings after their dismissals, but Alex Carey and Cameron Green added another 135 runs to take Australia past the 300-run mark. Carey was dismissed after a brilliant 69, while Green scored a fine 79. Australia were eventually bowled out for 391 runs. In response, Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins struck early in Pakistan’s innings, dismissing Imam-ul-Haq on just 11 runs

After achieving this feat, the only thing left on Smith’s run making mind will be to break his century drought and deliver a ton for his country like he has done on several other occasions.
