Pat Cummins stars with the bat as KKR go top

IPL 2022: KKR win courtesy of the partnership between Venkatesh Iyer and Pat Cummins.

Playing his 1st match of Tata IPL 2022, Pat Cummins turned all heads as he was the player of the match. The Aussie player scored the fastest 50 in IPL history.

Pat Cummins, who joined the training on 4th April, came in for Tim Southee for KKR. Alongside him, Rasikh Dar came in for Shivam Mavi.

FOR Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar Yadav came in for Anmolpreet Singh.

1st Innings

Umesh Yadav was at his best, again, at the beginning of the innings. He got rid of the Mumbai skipper early.

As said in the interview by Shreyas Iyer, it was a tricky wicket to bat on. Sponge ball bounce made it difficult to judge for almost every batsman except, Pat Cummins.

Dewald Brevis showed his talent, scoring a quick 29(19) balls before brilliant piece of work behind the stumps.

The South African youngster missed his slog sweep and his momentum took him out of the crease. Sam Billings whipped the bails off in a flash to send Baby AB back to the dugout.

Ishan Kishan followed suit soon, when his struggle at the crease came to an end. Pat Cummins dismissed him for 14(21).

Suryakumar Yadav along with Tilak Varma stitched a big partnership. The two added on 43 before they decided to go after the bowling.

From overs 16-20, Mumbai Indians scored 63 runs!

When 130 was looking difficult to get, MI managed to score 161.

23 runs came off the last over. Kieron Pollard scored 22 off 5 balls against Pat Cummins to propel MI to 161.

2nd Innings

Ajinkya Rahane could not get going before being dismissed by Tymal Mills.

Shreyas Iyer came in and hit a couple of boundaries but could not convert his start again. Daniel Sams took his wicket.

Murugan Ashwin turned the game in the favor of Mumbai as he picked up the wickets of Sam Billings and Nitish Rana.

Main man Andre Russell was dismissed cheaply by Tymal Mills as MI looked destined for a win.

In came Pat Cummins, who hit a 14 ball half century to kill any hopes of a win for MI.

The Australian, who is known for his bowling showed that he is no slouch with the bat either. A 35 run over by Daniel Sams meant KKR chased down 162 with 4 overs to spare.

This was the fastest 50 in the history of IPL.

Credit to Venkatesh Iyer as well. He played the role of an anchor as he finished 50* off 41 balls.

This win took KKR to the top of the table whereas MI are still without a win in their 3 matches.

KKR now take on Delhi Capitals on 10th April while MI meet RCB on 9th.
