For the 2022 Indian Premier League, the Gujarat Titans will almost certainly replace Jason Roy with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the hard-hitting Afghan opener. Roy had withdrawn from the IPL because he did not want to be in the spotlight for an extended length of time. Gurbaz is a versatile player with a lifetime T20 strike rate of 150 or higher as an opener and a strong keeper. The most entertaining aspect of the 20-year-career old’s is his ability to clear the boundaries, with 113 sixes in 69 T20 outings. In his brief yet fascinating career, he has played 9 ODIs and 12 T20Is.
While waiting for the BCCI‘s sanction, the Gujarat Titans have yet to properly select Gurbaz as a successor. Top spinner Rashid Khan, who was also Gurbaz’s senior on the national squad, is thought to have provided significant assistance to the team think-tank.
Gurbaz’s presence might also help the Titans with another issue, the keeping problems.
Matthew Wade will not be available until the second week of the IPL, and the only other keeper on the team is Wriddhiman Saha, who may be forced to play despite his poor T20 record in recent years.
Gurbaz’s inclusion may ease the concerns of head coach Ashish Nehra and captain Hardik Pandya.
Gurbaz has played for Multan Sultans and Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, Kandy Tuskers in the Lanka Premier League, and Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League.
