Rahul Dravid is delighted with the growth of Venkatesh Iyer as a finisher.

Iyer to play the finisher’s position in T20Is and that they are delighted with the all-performances rounder’s thus far.
Venkatesh Iyer has been batting at No. 6 in the Indian team since making his debut against New Zealand following the T20 World Cup last year. The left-handed batsman starred in India’s 3-0 sweep of the West Indies, collecting 92 runs in three matches, including two match-winning innings (18-ball 33 in the second T20I and 19-ball 35 not out in the third).
Iyer shown courage and poise as he stepped into bat when India was in trouble in both matches, but he stitched key partnerships with Suryakumar Yadav, who was named Player of the Series.
Dravid said that Iyer is an opener for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, but he would be given opportunity to bat in the middle order and finish for Team India. The Asian giants have been on the lookout for alternatives for Hardik Pandya, who is out of contention for senior call-ups owing to a persistent back problem.
As you know, he plays a different position (opener) for his IPL club, but I’m pretty sure we know what kind of role he would play for us in our hypothetical situation. We have established ourselves in the top three, and these individuals have done admirably in that role. ” Dravid said following India’s 3-0 victory over the West Indies.
He becomes better every time he bats at that position.” That’s quite encouraging.”
Iyer has also stepped in as the sixth bowler, providing India options ahead of the T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya’s failure to bowl even when he was eligible for selection in the recent past had been a source of concern for India, but the World No.1 T20I team has been experimenting with several options in that position.
When Deepak Chahar went off in the third over due to a hamstring injury, Venkatesh came in and took 2/23 in 2.1 overs. Iyer has three wickets in his short career, bowling over 7 overs for India in T20Is.
Dravid remarked, “Having a sixth bowler means that you are constantly called upon to bowl.” However, in situations like today, where Deepak was injured, you must bowl a few critical overs.
A sixth bowler’s function is to provide support for the captain when necessary. If you’re having a great game and the captain doesn’t need you, you’re not needed.
He will most likely need you in a critical moment,” he explained. ” He’s had a terrific series for us, I believe.
