Rohit Sharma backs teammate Kohli on recent poor form

India plays West Indies on the 16th of February, Wednesday in the first match of the T20 series after the end of the 3 match ODI series which was won by the men in blue in a pretty dominant manner. Rohit Sharma sat today in a pre-match press conference and answered many different types of questions around cricket and the preparations for the game. One of the questions was asked about Rohit Sharma’s former captain Virat Kohli’s batting inconsistency in recent times and how will he and his coach cope with the poor form of one of the best batsmen in the world.

His response was a very supportive one to his teammate who said “If you guys (media) can keep quiet for a while, everything will fall in place. He (Kohli) is in great mental space. He has been playing international cricket for more than a decade. He knows how to handle pressure,” Virat Kohli has seen some poor batting form in recent matches and just had his worst ODI series in regard to his batting after a lot of years. The former Indian skipper has not scored an international hundred since two and a half years which is a lot of time considering the level of a player he is.

Rohit was also asked about the atmosphere in the dressing room after the much-awaited IPL mega auction ended on Sunday. To that, he said “Yesterday, we had a great meeting, which conveyed the message that focus should firmly be on the Colour Blue for the next two weeks. It was understood that the guys would go through some ups and downs and a lot of emotional feelings (during the auction). But it’s done and dusted. They are professionals and now it’s only about India. Nothing else matters,”

He was asked about Kishan, his Mumbai Indians team-mate. The skipper’s reply was sharp. “I don’t want to be talking about the IPL here. We aren’t going to focus on what they are going to do for their respective franchises at the IPL. The IPL happens for two months, we play for India for 10 months.”
