Sanket Mahadev Sargar wins silver medal, India gets first medal at Commonwealth Games 2022
Sanket Mahadev Sargar won the men’s 55 kg silver medal. This is India’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The gold medal of this event was won by Malaysia’s Mohammad Aneek. The signal could lift only 248 kg. He suffered a minor injury in the third attempt of clean and jerk, due to which he missed out on the gold medal. Sanket lifted 113 kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean and jerk.

Malaysia’s Mohammad Aneek lifted a total of 249 kg to set a new Games record in clean and jerk to win the gold medal. He lifted 107 kg in snatch and 142 kg in clean and jerk. Sri Lanka’s Dilank Isuru Kumara lifted 225 kg to win the bronze medal
Sargar had topped the snatch but only one attempt in clean and jerk was successful in which he lifted 135 kg. After this, due to injury, he could not lift 139 kg in the second and third attempts. In the evening, P Gururaja (61kg), Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu (49kg) and S Bindiyarani Devi (55kg) will also be in the medal race.

India wins 126th medal in weightlifting at Commonwealth Games
India has been the best performer in weightlifting in the 1990, 2002 and 2018 Commonwealth Games. India is the second most successful country in the history of Commonwealth Games with 126 medals in weightlifting. Only Australia (159) have won more medals in the weightlifting event of these Games. The 2018 Commonwealth Games were dominated by India’s weightlifters who won nine medals, including 5 gold.
