Selectors announced on Saturday that Shakib Al Hasan would be considered for the upcoming South Africa series. The all-rounder stated he wasn’t in the appropriate frame of mind for cricket only days before. Shakib has had a string of poor performances, scored only 60 runs, and took only five wickets in a three-match One-Day International series against Afghanistan that ended last week.
After being nominated to the squad, he informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board, “I am fatigued and physically frustrated.” “I’m cancelling my idea for the South Africa series.”After meeting with board president Nazmul Hassan in Dhaka three days after being barred from competing in any format until April 30, Shakib changed his mind.
Shakib is now available for the South Africa series. He’s heading for South Africa tomorrow. Nazmul spoke to reporters after the meeting.
After his unexpected withdrawal, commentators chastised the 34-year-old, but Nazmul urged fans to consider the national team.
“We must remember that the players are under tremendous strain,” he remarked.
“There are 14 ODIs, 15 T20Is, and eight Tests scheduled this year. All these games are challenging for our veteran players to play. We must comprehend it “he continued.
Shakib told reporters that he and the board had worked out a plan for him to compete for the next year, with the board deciding when he should take a break.
The series against South Africa will begin on March 18 with the first one-day international (ODI) at Centurion.
In addition, Durban and Port Elizabeth will each host one test match.
Bangladesh’s one-day international team has already left for the series.
