Iran sacked the team’s head coach Dragan Skocic four months before the Football World Cup. Iran’s national news agency IRNA said the 53-year-old Croatian coach would not accompany the team to Qatar.
Skocic took over as the coach of the team in February 2020 and under his supervision the team topped the Asian World Cup qualification with eight wins and one draw.
Asia’s top-ranked (ranked 23) Iran team is in Group B along with England, Wales and the US in the World Cup. His campaign will start from November 21.
