Smriti Mandhana has been released from quarantine

The Indian women’s cricket team’s star batter Smriti Mandhana left for Queenstown on Tuesday to compete in the remainder of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand after completing her extended quarantine stay here. While she was under managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) with pacers Meghna Singh and Renuka Singh, Mandhana missed the one-off T20 International as well as two One-Day Internationals against New Zealand. Renuka has already been released from quarantine, while Meghna was released from MIQ on Tuesday.

However, due to their lengthy quarantine, both Mandhana and Meghna may be unavailable for the third ODI here on Friday. “Finally, I’m free of quarantine!! I can’t wait to rejoin the team, “Mandhana, 25, said on her Instagram page, beside a photo of herself with her suitcase.

India had lost the one-off T20 International as well as the first two ODIs while she was away. The second ODI was played on Tuesday. Earlier, following the one-off T20I, batter Yastika Bhatia revealed about Mandhana, Meghana Singh, and Renuka Singh’s stay in MIQ.

After arriving in New Zealand, the Indian squad underwent a 10-day MIQ in Christchurch. Before departing on January 24, the team was subjected to a week of strict quarantine in Mumbai.

To lessen the possibility of a COVID-19 epidemic, New Zealand Cricket relocated all of India’s matches to Queenstown, including a T20I and five ODIs. The bilateral series is an important task for India ahead of the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand in March-April.
