Along with many others, Shiva Thapa has been handed the opportunity of representing the tri-color flag at the Commonwealth Games, 2022.
Indian Boxer Shiva Thapa is a part of the Indian contingent that will represent the nation at the much awaited Commonwealth Games 2022.
Shiva Thapa is the third Indian to win gold in the Asian Games and is presently ranked third in the AIBA World Boxing Championships.

In an interview with Sports Trumpet, Shiva speaks about the training camp organized, his role model.

First up, Shiva was questioned about the efforts that the Government took, to help prepare Shiva and the other boxers.
“Currently, we have a training camp going on in NIS Patiala. Only a few days left for the Commonwealth Games and the team is putting in its best of efforts, before leaving for UK.”
Next, Shiva was quizzed about the challenges that he would faced during preparations for the CWG, 2022.
“Challenges are an integral part of training, so they are bound to confront us. But, we have the support of the government. Training has not been hampered and the government has helped us a lot.”
“We got proper facilities and infrastructure to train with. We have been provided coaches and support staff at the camp. The federation has helped us a lot to prepare for the games.”
“The training camp has been going on throughout the year and now that the games are almost upon us, the whole team is very confident of a strong performance at the Commonwealth Games, 2022.”
When asked about his role model, Shiva took the name of Mike Tyson. Tyson is a former American boxing champion. Many consider Tyson as the greatest ever heavyweight boxer.
“I used to follow Mike Tyson, early on, when I started Boxing. In fact, Mike Tyson is the reason that I joined the sport of Boxing. The American champion has been an inspiration for me.”

“As for Indian role models, all of them have inspired me, Vijender won the first medal for India at the Olympics in boxing, Akhil Kumar has performed well at the Olympics, he is a world medalist too. Akhil has helped the upcoming youth interested in this sport too.”
Lastly, Shiva said that he had a special message for his family and the supporters all over the nation.
“Everyone has supported and motivated us a lot. Whenever we go out and represent the nation, everyone shows their love and support, so please continue supporting us at the CWG 2022 and we hope we can repay this support with gold medals.”
The Commonwealth Games commence on 28th of July and will be played till 9th August, in UK.
