As a part of his prison sentence for killing wrestler Sagar Rana, Olympic gold medalist Sushil Kumar is teaching security inmates at Tihar prison in Delhi how to wrestle and be fit.
Sushil, who kept himself in shape by doing free-hand exercises, got permission from the jail authorities to teach inmates.
Sushil is going to teach the art of wrestling to 6 to 7 inmates as well as providing physical training.
Because of COVID-19, many restrictions have been imposed at the jail over the last two years. Sushil Kumar has been granted permission by the jail authorities because COVID cases are being prosecuted at a rapid pace in the country.
Officials at the jail said a similar plan was already in place, but the third wave of COVID put a halt to it. Sushil Kumar will train any prisoner interested in doing so, as keeping them occupied keeps them from becoming depressed.
Sushil Kumar has been put in prison in Tihar since June of last year, after being arrested in May of 2021. On the intervening nights of May 4 and 5, the wrestling star and his associates allegedly assaulted 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankar, his friend Sonu, and three others at the stadium over a property dispute. Sagar died from the injuries he sustained.
The police investigation determined that Kumar feared the duo and couldn’t withstand them because of their initial reluctance to vacate Kumar’s flat and “murmurs” in the stadium.
