The Indian Spinners Caught Us In Two Minds: Nicholas Pooran

West Indies batsmen were caught off guard while battling Indian spinners in the first T20I, according to vice-captain Nicholas Pooran, who urged the batting unit to make “small tweaks” in the following two games of the three-match series. West Indies got off to a fast start, reaching 44 for one in the first six overs, but the Indian spin combo of Yuzvendra Chahal and debutant Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets between them to derail the visitors in the middle overs and limit them to 157 for 7 at Eden Gardens.

“To be honest, we thought we were 10-15 runs short. On this course, a total of 170-75 would have been a solid score. We can’t really criticize the bowlers.

He urged their batters to keep going, saying, “Again, it’s our hitting” (that needs to improve). Today, we did a good job with the spinners. We simply want to continue forming alliances. We just need to do a better job of negating the spinners.

“Today, we couldn’t decide whether to attack them or keep them out of the game, and we got stuck there. As a result, modest corrections and modifications were required. We simply need to be a little more innovative and execute our plans better in the upcoming game.” Pooran stated that dew played a significant impact, as batting second under heavy dew made it easy for the Indians, who cruised to a six-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

“Obviously, it (dew) had a significant role. Looking at the game, you can see the bowlers battling to hold the ball in the final five overs. The wicket performed better in the second part of the game, in my opinion “He stated.

“The wicket was a little difficult… I believe the ball came to a halt. They bowled quite well. The wicket was fast and slow. It was difficult for spinners and seamers to estimate the pace of the wicket while bowling back of the length “Pooran, who regained his form with a 43-ball 61, explained.

“It was difficult to hit through the line early in the game. As you can see by the number of players wiping the ball, there was a lot of dew, thus a lot of full tosses were bowled at the end.”
