The Kylian Mbappe saga takes a surprising twist at the end

Spanish press gets angered by Kylian Mbappe’s stance on choosing Paris Saint Germain over Real Madrid and labels the deal as scandalous

The Kylian Mbappe saga is one of the biggest U-turns a player has made in recent football transfer history. It has left many football fans shocked!

The boy who once came to the Valdebebas in 2012 was touted as the future prince of Real Madrid, instead, he become the prince of Qatar and their owners of Paris Saint Germain.

In 2017 when Mbappe was plying his trade with AS Monaco in the French league, Real Madrid bid a 160 milion offer for the then 18-year-old. But, somehow PSG hijacked the deal by offering a 180million offer and taking him on loan for the first season. Madrid offered a salary of 7million per year whereas PSG offered 15 million.

PSG splashed millions over the years to strengthen their squad. They dominated Ligue 1 without any close competition from other French clubs. Only in the 2020-21 season, did Lille FC win the league. The Parisian’s only endeavor was to win the Champions League. A dream which has been the only target for the Qatari owners. But, till now they haven’t succeeded.

Kylian Mbappe primarily showed his love and admiration for Real Madrid. How he proudly showed his role-model Cristiano Ronaldo’s pics all over his room. The dream of wearing the legendary white shirt and walking along the pitch of Santiago Bernabeu.

Repeated on many occasions Mbappe publicly said his wish to join Real Madrid in the future. Madrid’s president Florentino Perez also kept closed tabs with Mbappe’s family and also persuaded him to join Madrid.

In the summer of 2021, in August, Mbappe got only a year left on his contract. Seeing the right opportunity, Real Madrid made an official bid of a 160million + 20 million add-ons to PSG for Kylian Mbappe. Only getting it rejected by Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG president.

Mbappe showed eagerness to leave PSG and urged Madrid to up their bid and come up with an improved figure. But that too was rejected by the PSG officials.

The PSG president said,

“I will be clear, Mbappe is going to stay in Paris. We will never sell him and he will never leave on a free [transfer]. Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris. Where can he go? What club, in terms of ambition, can compete with PSG today? All I can say is that things are going well, and I hope we can reach an agreement [on a new contract]. This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football but to promote Ligue 1, his country, and his capital,” he stated.

In the winter transfer window in January, Mbappe became a free agent and was able to sign with any club. It was reported that Madrid had a verbal agreement but didn’t confirm any, as both the clubs were due to face each other in the upcoming Round of 16 in the UCL.

In the month of April, Mbappe didn’t come to the terms with Real Madrid, and problems were raised regarding image rights. PSG also on the other hand pushed for renewal after getting rejected on many occasions before.

On May 9, 2022, speculations fueled up when news came out that Mbappe visited Madrid with Achraf Hakimi. Rumors spread across about Mbappe confirming his stay in Madrid.
