Richa Ghosh hit the fastest ODI half-century by an Indian woman but could not prevent her team from losing by 63 runs in the rain-shortened fourth ODI in Queenstown on Tuesday, as New Zealand took a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.
Notably, Ghosh scored her fifty off only 26 balls, thanks to four 4s and four 6s, before departing for 52. Rain forced the fourth One-Day International (ODI) to be reduced to 20 overs per side.
The Indian top-order crumbled under pressure while chasing 192 for victory, leaving the visitors reeling at 19 for 4. Richa (52) led the way for India, while skipper Mithali chipped in with 30 before the visitors were bowled out for 128 in 17.5 overs. This was India’s fifth defeat on the tour, having previously lost the lone T20I and all four ODIs.
Earlier, Amelia Kerr scored 68 runs off 33 balls with 11 fours and one six as New Zealand posted 191/5 against India. Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine also pitched useful innings of 41 and 32 runs, respectively, as the White Ferns scored more than 190 runs. Amy Satterthwaite also contributed with a 32-run knock off 16 balls. Renuka Singh returned with two wickets for India.
